Kazo District Distributes 1,000 Bags of Fertilizer to Coffee Farmers

Kazo district has distributed 1,000 bags of fertilizer supplied by Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) to farmers across the district.

The distribution was conducted at Kazo district headquarters, with the fertilizer intended to support coffee farmers. Each bag contains 50 kilograms and the allocation provides 100 bags to each of the district’s 10 sub-counties and town councils.

Speaking during the distribution, Kazo district production officer, Zephrine Tumwesigye said the district had safely stored the fertilizer while awaiting clear guidelines on its distribution.

Tumwesigye urged farmers to use the fertilizer properly and work closely with agricultural officers in their respective sub-counties and town councils to ensure it achieves its intended purpose.

Muhangi Sedrack, a Senior Agricultural Officer from MAAIF, said the fertilizer programme is aimed at supporting coffee farmers across the country. He noted that Kazo is among the districts that have benefited from the government programme, receiving 1,000 bags.

The Coordinator 0f Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) in Kazo district, Lt. Col. Sam Mugisha, called on residents to embrace government agricultural programs, including OWC and the Parish Development Model (PDM).

He said the programs are intended to help households improve their livelihoods and move out of poverty, urging farmers to make proper use of the opportunities provided by government.

The Principal Human Resource Officer, representing the Chief Administrative Officer, Ambrose Muhumuza, urged farmers to use the fertilizer appropriately. He said the district administration would work to ensure the fertilizer reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Kazo district LC5 Chairman Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda said the district had been waiting for clear guidelines from MAAIF before beginning the distribution.

Katugunda said the fertilizer is being provided free of charge to eligible coffee farmers and thanked the government for supporting coffee production in the district.

Meanwhile, Kazo Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mugisha Bazirio Paddy thanked the government for supporting farmers through agricultural programmes.

He said the RDC’s office would continue monitoring the use of the fertilizer to ensure it reaches the intended beneficiaries and contributes to improved agricultural production.

The district leaders called on farmers to use fertilizer responsibly and work with agricultural extension officers to maximize its benefits.
