In a powerful display of unity and compassion, Yesterday the people of Kazo District came together to support one of their own Divine Kyogabeirwe, the Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) for Kazo District who is set to travel abroad for urgent, life-saving breast cancer surgery in India.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in May this year, Divine’s condition requires specialized treatment that is not readily available locally. In response, the community organized a marathon to raise awareness and show solidarity, while also helping raise funds for her medical journey.

The marathon commenced at the Kazo District Headquarters and followed a route through key areas of the district including the Kazo Model Playground- Kazo Central Market-Kazo Mosque, St. Mary’s - Keep Left -Bafaki Road (Ntambazi)- Humura Area- Kazo Police Station- Kazo Main Roundabout- Kazo Main Street- Kyabahura Primary School -Omukikaza and ended at Kazo Main Playground.

This event aimed not only to support Divine’s medical needs but also to raise awareness about the reality of cancer and the importance of early detection and collective action.

The run was attended by a broad cross-section of society including district technical staff, political and religious leaders, business people, journalists, relatives of Divine and the general public all united in a common cause.

Strong Messages from District Leaders
Astone Ahimbisibwe, the in-charge of Kazo Health Center IV, took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of early cancer detection. “Early detection is crucial. We need to encourage women to undergo regular screenings and tests to identify any abnormalities early,” he stated.

Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, the Chief Administrative Officer for Kazo District, participated in the marathon and commended both the district leadership and technical staff for their unwavering cooperation in supporting Divine. “I trust God that Divine’s life will be saved. I sincerely thank everyone who has supported her,” he remarked.

We must continue to support Divine and others in similar situations to help them access the care they need,” he urged. Katugunda also encouraged the public to always support colleagues facing life’s toughest battles.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kazo District, Mugisha Paddy, lauded the district for its show of unity. He also encouraged residents to go for regular health screenings, especially for cancer. “The spirit of solidarity shown today is commendable. Let us also prioritize our own health through regular checkups,” he said.

Hon. Kimosho: “Let Divine Board the Plane Quickly”
Hon. Dan Atwijukire Kimosho, the Member of Parliament for Kazo County, was among the key figures present. He emphasized the need for regular medical checkups and early detection in the fight against cancer. “Regular checkups save lives. I urge everyone to be vigilant about their health,” Kimosho said.

He contributed personally to Divine’s treatment fund and also delivered contributions from his friends. “Let Divine board the plane quickly for treatment. Other things can be sorted later,” he stated, underscoring the urgency of her medical needs.

A Testament to Community Spirit

The event witnessed a massive turnout and was a testament to the deep sense of community and compassion that defines Kazo District. The marathon was not just a physical run, but a symbol of the emotional and social race to save a life.

As Divine Kyogabeirwe prepares for her journey to India, the district remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting her recovery. Organizers and participants expressed hope that their collective support will ease her path to healing and inspire others to prioritize health, compassion, and unity.
