Kazo District Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Kazo district on tuesday joined the rest of the country in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” The event was held at the district headquarters.
Uganda joined United Nations member states worldwide to mark the international day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2025, with national celebrations held in Mubende district.
Speaking during the district celebrations, Mpungye Franklin, Chairperson of People with Disabilities in Kazo district, thanked the government of Uganda for involving PWDs in national programs. He also appreciated district leaders for organizing the event today
Franklin encouraged persons with disabilities to work hard for a better future, form groups, and cooperate in order to benefit from government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other programs.
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kazo district, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, commended persons with disabilities for cooperating with district leadership. He emphasized that PWDs are full citizens of Uganda and are entitled to participate in and benefit from all government programs.
During the meeting, the CAO directed the Education Officer in charge of Special Needs to provide a physical report on the status of special needs education in the district. He also tasked the Principal Agricultural Officer to report on the implementation of the Parish Development Model, specifically to establish whether persons with disabilities are accessing PDM funds.
He reassured PWDs that they are part of all Ugandans and should actively engage in development programs.
The Deputy Speaker of Kazo district, Leah Munene, represented the LC5 Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda. In her message, she urged persons with disabilities to preach unity and avoid isolating themselves, emphasizing that they are equally capable as those without disabilities.
She also conveyed the LC5 Chairperson’s call to Community Development Officers (CDOs) and all public servants to respect and support persons with disabilities. Rev.Katugunda thanked the CAO and the technical team for ensuring that PWD representatives were selected to benefit in Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs and other empowerment initiatives.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner Bazirio Mugisha Paddy emphasized the need for persons with disabilities to access government development programs. He encouraged them to form development groups and be responsible members of their communities.
He further advised beneficiaries of PDM and SACCO funds to repay the money in time so that other community members can also benefit.
Polly Muhwezi, the District Community Development Officer for Kazo district highlighted that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed and this serves as a reminder to promote inclusion, equal opportunities and social progress for persons with disabilities.
The district leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building a disability-inclusive society where no one is left behind.
