Kazo District Receives 297 Iron Sheets to Support School Roofing

Kazo District Local Government has received a total of 297 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), following lobbying efforts by the District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Jennifer Rwaburibate Muheesi.

Hon. Muheesi said it was her wish to ensure that schools in the district get better learning facilities. She thanked the Government of Uganda and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, through the Prime Minister’s Office, for responding to her lobbying.

The iron sheets were delivered yesterday to Kagaramira Primary School in Nkungu Sub- County and Rwemikyenkye Primary School in Engari Sub- County to complete the roofing of classroom blocks. The initiative aims at providing a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils who have been studying under harsh conditions due to poor or missing roofs.

Before delivery, a joint verification team comprising officials from the OPM and Kazo District Local Government assessed and confirmed the roofing needs of the two schools.

At the district headquarters, Mr. Zakayo Tumuhimbise, Headteacher of Rwemikyenkye Primary School, expressed his gratitude, noting that leaking roofs during the rainy season had disrupted classes. Similarly, Ms. Stella Akatukunda, Headteacher of Kagaramira Primary School, said their classrooms had been without proper roofing for six months after destruction by heavy rains. She emphasized that the new iron sheets would protect pupils from both rain and excessive sun, thereby improving their learning conditions.

Seith Byaruhanga, Kazo District Secretary for Works and Transport, said the roofing support would directly improve pupils’ academic performance by ensuring a safe learning environment.

The District Inspector of Schools, John Bosco Tumwesigye, also appreciated Hon. Muheesi for lobbying for the district.

In his remarks, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kazo district, Hajji Badru Mayanja, thanked both the OPM and the Woman MP for their efforts. He directed school authorities to ensure that the iron sheets are used strictly for the intended purpose.

The LC5 Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, also thanked the Prime Minister’s Office for the support extended to Kazo district, noting that such interventions greatly improve service delivery in the education sector.
